Our Master Bedroom

This is the master bedroom at our house.  I actually can't justify calling our bedroom a master because of its small size.  Then again, every room is tiny in our little Cape Cod.

There it is!  Our teeny tiny, one small closet, ugly honey trim-colored bedroom.  I mean, master bedroom.  We are thinking of changing the color of the walls (again) and will be installing crown molding soon.  We'll update when that happens!

Our Easter Decorations

Even though up until a few days ago it still looked like this...

and this...

outside, we are ready for spring inside our cute little Cape Cod.  Here are a few of the ways I have decorated for spring.  Willow branches made an appearance at our grocery store a few weeks ago.   I love how they add a little life into our dining room.  Our plan is to plant them outside in pots in the summer.

I placed the willow in a large vase next to an apothecary jar I filled with moss and eggs.  The moss is from Pottery Barn.  I had been stalking the store for weeks since everytime I went into the store, they were sold out!  I think it is such a fun, fresh green color.  On top of the moss I have ceramic eggs in various colors.  I got the eggs at a craft store years ago.  My green bunny candy dish and a placemat from World Market finish off the table.

Here it is from a different viewpoint.

Our dining room table has the same placemat as the side table.  I used the moss and eggs again inside this vase.  I love the little white bunny salt and pepper shakers.  I purchased them from World Market as well.  They remind me of something my mom would have.

I want to get the table runner that matches these placemats.  I am waiting (not very patiently) for it to go on sale.  ;)  I just love these little bunnies!

See?  Isn't that moss so pretty?  I love it.

These poor corner cabinets are still without hardware and doors.  We have the hardware picked out and the doors are painted.  We just need to find the time to finish them.  Jason's spring break is coming up this next week, so hopefully we'll be able to put them all together!

This is a better shot of our dining room.  I still need to finish the curtains.  We'll just add that to the ever-growing list.

This is our living room console table.  I have the Pottery Barn moss inside these apothecary jars and topped it off with birds' nests and eggs.  I found the eggs and nests at Target.

Here is a close-up view.

This is a shot of the side table next to the couch.

A little thyme, a white bird, and a white candle holder fill in some space on our small round table.  Do you see that snow out there?  Seriously!

Here is what I have placed on our coffee table.  Another plant adds some much needed green!

Here is another shot of the coffee table.  The crooked knob is curtesy of Henry, who pretends they are part of his firetruck.

These white bunnies are on the shelf below the console table.  I got them from a thrift store and spray painted them white.  I was hoping they would look similar to the ones from Pottery Barn...  Mine are a little chunky compared to theirs, but I still love them!  Oh, and please ignore the enormous heating vent behind the bunnies.  We're working on that one.  Since it is so large, there is a huge chunk cut out of our wood floors.  We would have to replace and refinish the wood.  So right now we're living with the large and in charge vent.

There you have it!  Spring has arrived!

Do You Fondue?

Jason and I have always wanted to try fondue.  We thought before we went out and bought our own fondue pot, we would borrow one from my wonderful in-laws!  I found a Tyler Florence recipe online.  His recipes have never failed me.  Never.  He is amazing.  Every single time I make one of his recipes it is so delicious.  I love him.  His recipe calls for gruyere and swiss cheese.  I went to a specialty store to get our cheese.  I thought it was important to get a high quality cheese since the cheese is the star of the show.

Henry was especially fond (why yes, I did use that word on purpose!) of the forks.  Typical boy.

I blanched the vegetables until they were just soft.  We had broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, apples, pears, and two types of bread: a French baguette and an Italian loaf.

My sweet Ollie!  Such a happy boy!

I am focusing so hard on my dipping!

That's a nice big bite!

That's some pretty fancy eating, Jason!  I love my husband.

We loved our fondue dinner!  Perhaps a fondue pot purchase is in our future!  Or maybe we'll just borrow Mom and Dad's a little longer...

Living with Little Boys

I grew up with three sisters.  We loved all things girly, were really not into sports, and liked it that way.  I always pictured myself growing up, getting married, and having girls.  Maybe one boy, but mostly girls.  So when Jason and I first found out we were having a boy, I was totally thrown for a loop!  Very excited and thankful, but I knew little about having a little BOY!  When we became pregnant again with Oliver, I knew it was going to be another boy.  I don't know how, but I just knew.  So now I live with three boys.  I love it and wouldn't have it any other way.  Having boys means that you must learn the following:

Boys like "extreme sports."

Boys love their construction machinary.  This is a payloader.

You will learn quickly the difference between an excavator and a backhoe, a dump truck and a motor grader.

Boys love gross things like bugs.  Going on bug hunts will become commonplace.

Boys will get dirty.

You will need to learn how to make boyish birthday cakes.

Boys love their sports.

Sports games are a must.

Nothing will get little boys away from machinary.  Even if they're still in their jammies.

Boys love anything with wheels.  And they'll find creative ways to use them.

Still loving their sports.

Boys wrestle.  And play rough, like piling things on top of one another.

Christmas will look like this at your house.  Trucks.

Trains.

Power tools.

Tool benches made by their daddy.

And motorcyles.

Playing in the snow will involve making caves, tunnels, and snowballs.

Little boys will pretend to be just like daddy.

I have loved learning all there is to know about boys and the things they love.  There is certainly no pink or Barbies in this house.  Maybe someday, but for right now I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love you Jason, Henry, and Oliver.
