Making the Most of Winter

I'll be the first to admit that winter can get long.  The snow and cold can be overwhelming.  Also, not much can wear out a momma more than getting kids bundled up in all of those layers.

However, winter has some perks.  Here are some ways we've been making the most of these cold, snowy days.

We've been enjoying the fluffiest, biggest snowflakes every day for about five days now.  They're beautiful and if you look closely, the tiny details on them are breathtaking.

Jason loves having little boys who ask to go out and shovel those big, fluffy flakes.

Winter calls for a variety of beverages that warm you from the inside out.  Aside from coffee and tea, our favorites have been cappuccinos and espressos and the occasional Hot Toddy or hot buttered rum.

Sledding is a blast with two little boys.  It is also terrifying.  Any mom to boys can tell you that to them, the more dangerous an activity is, the more exciting it is.  They have no fear!

How do you beat those late winter blues?

A Play All Day Kind of Day

Jason has been so busy with work lately and the boys can tell.  They weren't getting as much attention from their dad as they usually do and were pretty frustrated about it.  People were getting cranky around here and something had to be done!  I declared last Wednesday as a "play all day" kind of day.  I didn't do any laundry or any cleaning and took the boys sledding instead.  We were at the sledding hill by nine in the morning and spent two and a half hours having fun.  Since we went so early on a school day, we had the hill to ourselves.

This little guy wasn't such a big fan of walking up the hill, so I got my workout in for the day as I pulled him up on the sled a dozen or so times.

I lost track of how many times Henry went up and down that hill.  He was having the time of his life.

A morning of fresh air, exercise, and fun was just what we needed.  If Jason had been there, it would have been perfect.  We spent the rest of the day playing with Legos, tools, coloring, and baking cookies.  It was a pretty great day.
