Fall Yarn Wreath

Well, I did it.  I wasn't even sure if I liked yarn wreaths until a couple of weeks ago when I saw that my sister Amelia had made the cutest one and hung it on her apartment door.  I should have taken a picture of it so that you could see it...  Here is my version of the bloggy favorite: the yarn wreath.

Here are my supplies:  a foam wreath form, white yarn, and various colors of neutral yarns.

I only ended up using three of these colors of felt for mine.  The bright yellow color did not make the cut.  The names of the colors from left to right are:  Sandstone, Copper Canyon, and Goldenrod.

I took a kitchen mug and traced circles onto my felt and then cut them out.  I'm very professional, you see.

I then took the circles and gathered them into a "rosette."

I took some stick pins and simply pinned the rosette onto the wreath.
I made three yellow, three brown, and two tan.

To hang the wreath onto the door, I took a strip of felt and wrapped it around the wreath.  I secured it with pins.  That knot you see is the end of the yarn after I finished wrapping it.

To make a bow for the wreath, I made a dog bone shape on a piece of paper and cut it out.  I traced this shape onto some felt and cut it out as well.

The other part of the bow required a long rectangular strip of felt.  I secured the ends together with hot glue.

Once I got the bow looking the way I wanted it to, I secured it with pins to hold it in place until I was ready to glue it all together.

I wrapped the dog bone shape around the pinned part of the bow.  I removed the pins and then glued it all together with hot glue.

This is the back side of the bow.

Here is the front!  Isn't it cute?

After I glued the bow to the top of the felt piece, I was ready to hang my wreath!

Here is the finished product!

This picture shows you the rosettes up close.

I love how I can easily change the look of the wreath for the seasons because I used pins to keep everything in place.  I'll be on the lookout for some inspiration for Christmas yarn wreaths.  Or maybe I'll just wait until Amelia makes one...  Get on that, sister!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Our Spoooooky Table

This is my "I wish I had a fireplace mantel to decorate but, alas, I do not" table.  Maybe in our next house we'll have one.  I'm putting that on top of the ol' priority list for our next home.  Not that we're moving anytime soon, because we're not.  I'm just sayin' I want a fireplace.

Anyway, I have never really decorated for Halloween before.  Then I had two little boys who adore things like mice, spiders, and all things spooky.  I guess that nursery rhyme about snails and puppy dog tales is true.  So, to please my boys, I bought some Martha skulls from Michaels and some spiders and webs from Target.  I added those things to my crows from Pottery Barn and Michaels and went to town on this table in our dining room.

Can you see the reflection of my pants in this picture?  Yes, those are white sweatpants.

Henry and I made those bats together the other day upon his request.  We hung some from the ceiling, taped some to the wall, and taped one to the mirror.  He was pretty pleased with his contribution.

I hope you enjoyed a peek at our first go at a spooky table!

My Boys~ Fall 2011

Yesterday the weather was beautiful.  I seized the chance to perhaps get some good shots of my boys in the leaves, just like I did last year.  We always have so much fun.  Our photos usually end with the boys playing at a park in their dress clothes.  Whatever keeps them happy, right?   I've never taken Henry and Oliver to a professional photographer but have instead taken some pictures of the boys myself.  Here are some of my favorite shots from our "shoot."

I've studied my manual to my camera dozens of times and read up on as much as I have time for.  This is as good as it gets.  Someday I hope to take a photography class because I just want to be able to take decent pictures of my boys!  You always hear about how they grow up so fast.  Now that I've been a momma for four years, I know that it is true!  I will always treasure these pictures and my boys' sweet faces, even if they're not the quality I'm after.  We had a wonderful time and laughed a lot.  They had fun with each other and I got to capture it.  What more can a mom ask for?

A Hike with My Boys

As promised, here are the pictures from the hike we took a couple of weeks ago already.  I'm sure this area is even more beautiful now that the leaves have actually changed colors.  Since our yard is pretty tiny, the boys loved being able to run around in all of this space.  The forecast called for rain, but it managed to hold off until we got home.

Getting Oliver to sit still for a picture is still a struggle.  I look a little frazzled...

Jason told the boys to try to catch the leaves as they fell.  I don't think they caught any!

My manly husband climbed this dead tree.

Henry has always wanted to climb a tree, so of course the boys climbed too.

I had to prove to my boys that girls can climb trees as well.

I love being able to get out and marvel at God's creation.  I sometimes forget how quiet and peaceful a place can be after living in the busy city.  Thank you God for such a wonderful day with my boys!
